We have a product that we sell at one price, and we have the same product only with decor (in two versions), which we make from the first product when a customer places an order. How do we make sure that the items we make from the first item are in stock when the first item is in stock?

If you manufacture goods using passports and "Production" - in automation for products, the action "Fill in the product card based on passport materials" is available, where there is a setting "If all component goods have the "In stock" checkbox, put it in the Produced product . If at least one of the components does not have a check mark - remove it in the manufactured product "- it will probably solve your problem. In theory, you could try setting up an update action so that when parts are updated, the produced product is recalculated.

I enabled this automation, but now after saving the product it gives an error 500

Probably you looped the update of the goods among themselves? (that the same product is updated from one product) Let's look at the example of the product where the error occurs (I recommend that you disable the action for now, I will enable it when you give a link to the problematic product and I will test the correctness of the settings)
