Units of measurement have flown

The situation is as follows:
- units of measurement were entered, for example "set", "piece", "m2"
Added products to the list
After a while, they renamed it, removed the dot in the name - "set", "piece"

https://prnt.sc/v8fazp
Where the unit was not changed, everything remained in order. And in products whose units of measurement have been renamed, units have disappeared everywhere.
https://prnt.sc/v8farc
Why is there no link to the reference? In theory, they should work through the ID, and not through the name.
Help fix.

Good afternoon. Units of measure are installed in the product immediately by the name of the unit of measure. Those. if you change the name of the unit. measurements, they will not be replaced in the products, but will be the same as they were at the time of selection.

What is this logic about? After all, there is a reference book of units of measurement and there is an id. It is logical that the name of the unit of measure changes everywhere. I understand if I changed id

It can be fixed? I have never seen such logic in any software.

Problematic. There are already about 200 places in the code where this approach is used. I can suggest that when editing a unit of measure, all products in which there was an old unit should be set by the script to a new one, i.e. replace value. Will this option suit you?
